Time to celebrate: Iceland’s Westfjords have been selected as the best region to visit in 2022 by Lonely Planet!

The Australian publishing company has once again issued its classic “Best in Travel” annual list, choosing the top ten countries, but also cities and regions worldwide.

Iceland’s Westfjords are chosen to be the perfect getaway in 2022, as its beautiful and untouched nature, as well as the absence of mass tourism, make it a dream destination for tourists (and of course, we couldn’t agree more)!

When Lonely Planet’s writers, bloggers, and staff members, nominated the Westfjords and presented the nominations to a jury, the jury considered the uniqueness of the region, a certain wow factor, and sustainability. The publisher claimed that they were impressed by how communities work together to promote and protect the region.

In the Westfjords, you can visit the incredible Dynjandi waterfall, or Ísafjörður, the biggest town in the region, relax in a geothermal pool, visit Snæfellsnes peninsula, or the beautiful town of Stykkishólmur, with its well-preserved old houses, and much more. Of course, you shouldn’t miss out on Hornstrandir, a nature reserve, and hiker’s paradise, impressing with its wide area of tundra, cliffs, glaciers, and flower fields.
