Guided Tour Auroras, volcanoes and glacier lagoon

Transfer with Flybus from Keflavík International Airport to your accommodation in Reykjavík where you spend the first night.

You meet your guide and group in the morning and start the escorted tour program. We kick off with a short introduction to Icelandic geology by watching a film at Reykjavik Volcano House documenting the eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull and Fimmvörðulháls in 2010. We leave Reykjavik for Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. This is one of Iceland's most fascinating places both geologically and history. Thingvellir is where the tectonic plates of Europe and North America meet, pulling Iceland apart with the rift clearly visible in the beautiful landscape.
We continue inland to explore the hot springs area of Geysir in Haukadalur. Here you will find geysers, hot springs and bubbling mud pools. The oldest Geysir is now dormant, but Strokkur erupts every 8 minutes approximately. Next we travel to Gullfoss, “the golden waterfall“, which is a double tiered waterfall that tumbles donw 34 metres into the Hvítá river. After dinner, your guide will tell you information about the Northern Lights before going out in the surrounding area searching for this natual phenomenom.  Overnight in cottage in South Iceland.

We travel east along the coast to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, filled with giant floating icebergs and seals are often spotted on the black beach below the lagoon. You can take stroll on Breiðamerkursandur, the black sandy beach where large icebergs get stranded, nicknamed the "diamond" beach for this reason. The Vatnajökull National Park is roughly 12,000 square kilometers and is the largest National Park in Europe. Here you will find Iceland’s highest mountains and Europe's largest glacier. After dinner you can enjoy a movie presentation about Northern Lights as a part of the Northern Lights educational program. This remote and quiet location is ideal for Northern lights sightings.

Today, we travel across the Laki lava field along the coast to the village of Vík.  We take a walk on the black sandy beach of Reynisfjara beach and admire the birdclifss, the Reynisdrangar rock formation and Dyrholaey. We pass the glacier Mýrdalsjökull and the infamous volcano Eyjafjallajökull as we continue to Skógafoss waterfall which is 60 meters high and one of the most impressive waterfalls in Iceland.  Further west along the coast we reach the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall which plunges over the mountain in beautiful surroundings. There‘s a path leading behind the fall which is a nice walk giving a view from a different angle than most waterfalls! We come back to the capital in the evening, last night is in Reykjavik.
