48 SOUTH COAST ADVENTURE On this comfortable coach tour, we travel along Iceland’s scenic south shore to Vik, a village flanked by high cliffs and black sand beaches. Along the way we stop at Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, and Skogar Folk museum to see how Icelanders lived in past centuries. All day long there are stunning views of glaciers, coastlines and impressive rock formations. Duration: Approx. 10 hrs GOLDEN CIRCLE This eclectic journey takes visitors to the world famous Geysir area with its active geysers, and Gullfoss waterfall, which plunges 230 feet (70 me- ters) in three stages into a narrow rock chasm. The journey continues into Thingvellir National Park, where Iceland’s ancient parliament convened, and the hot spring of Nesjavellir. On the way back to the capital, we briefly stop at the former bishopric of Skalholt and visit the greenhouses of Fridheimar. Duration: Approx. 8 hours SILVER CIRCLE HELICOPTER TOUR Taking off from Reykjavik, the helicopter glides above Hvalfjordur Fjord and impressive Glymur waterfall, which cascades 640 feet (195 meters) down a volcanic cliff. We then fly into Thingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to get a bird’s-eye-view of the rift valley that separates the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Finally we soar over Mt. Hengill volcano and its active geothermal field of steamy wonders and nearby geothermal power plant. Duration: Approx. 1.5 hrs SUPER-JEEP SAFARI THORSMORK With its varied vegetation and spectacular topo- graphy, Thorsmork is a paradise for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Located near the south coast, the valley is surrounded by three glaciers including the famous Eyjafjallajokull. To reach this remote area we need to cross countless rivers of various sizes in our Super-Jeep vehicle – a bonus for off-road fans! Other stops along the way include Gígjokull glacial lagoon, the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and the active volcanic area around Hengill. Good footwear is a prerequisite. Duration: Approx. 8-10 hrs SUPER-JEEP SAFARI HIGHLANDS REGION LANDMANNALAUGAR This audacious tour starts with a rough and tumble ride in specially equipped 4x4 vehicles into the Thjorsa Valley to explore the colorful highland area of Landmannalaugar. Hiking trails lead into the surrounding mountains and along the banks of Ljotipollur crater lake. There’s also time to enjoy a dip in one of the freshwater springs which dot this amazing landscape. Duration: Approx. 10-12 hrs INSIDE THE VOLCANO Have you ever wondered what the inside of a volcano looks like? On this adventure unique to Iceland, visitors descend into the 4,000-year-old, dormant Thrihnukagigur Volcano. After a 50-minute hike along the crater floor, visitors descend via an open elevator 400 feet (192 meters) into a magma chamber once filled with glowing hot lava. Due to rough terrain, participants are advised to wear solid footwear as well as warm, waterproof clothing.
