In 1773 the first whaling base was founded there. Whaling has been of great importance to the town over the past two centuries. Hunting and fishing are still the primary occupations for the island’s inhabitants. DAY 12 | KANGERLUSSUAQ In the morning we reach the 120-mile (190 km) Kangerlussuaq Fjord and the town of the same name. It’s time to say goodbye to the OCEAN DIAMOND. Charterflight back to Keflavik.
